NO LESSONS on weeks as specified on the studio calendar.
**36 weeks of lessons are scheduled for this school year with 1 extra week (37 total) built into the schedule. This 37th lesson is designed to be used as an optional/flex week in the event of the teacher needing to cancel lessons without impacting the calendar.
2018-2019 School Year Registration Fee (non-refundable): $50.00 per student (or $80.00 per family)
Registration is now open for the 2018-2019 school year! Any student (new/current) may register for lessons for the upcoming school year by completing the registration form (find the online link below) and paying the Registration Fee for the 2018-2019 school year. However, students who took a minimum of 6-8 lessons during the summer term will be scheduled first, provided that they submit their registration form and fee by August 1, 2018. Registration forms submitted after this date will have less of a say in a preferred lesson time, as scheduling will be on a “first come, first served” basis in order to have the school year schedule set up in a timely manner.
Students desirous to keep their same lesson time will have seniority in terms of keeping their previous school year lesson time if they so desire. If you do not desire to keep your school year lesson time, you can request a different day/time, and I will do my best to try and meet your request. My teaching schedule is also organized according to my needs as the teacher (i.e., what times I would prefer to see beginning versus advanced students; how childcare will factor into my teaching schedule, etc.). Essentially, I will do my best to meet your scheduling needs, but I would ask for your understanding in the event that I cannot.

Any accommodations you can make in your schedule in terms of lesson time will help ensure that every student who would like to take lessons can continue taking lessons. As such, please consider the following items as you prepare to submit your registration form:
Reminders for the Upcoming School Year
Once again, I am taking the opportunity with the start of a new school year to state emphatically that it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you and your student commit 100% to attend not only private lessons each week, but also attend GROUP LESSONS; participate in FESTIVAL(s); perform in STUDIO RECITALS; and PRACTICE DAILY to get the most out of your music lesson experience. My program is intended to provide students with a strong technical and solid foundation, but only if students are maximizing their involvement by taking advantage of all the “extras” that compliment private lesson study, and practicing regularly, of course!
Please be aware that recital (and any event) participation is largely contingent on whether I (the teacher) feel that your student is prepared to play. It is not fair to other students who work hard to prepare their piece for recital to send a student who is not equally prepared (or invested) to play at recital. Please keep these guidelines on recitals in mind: (1) Should your student "miss" any lessons prior to a recital (including the last lesson scheduled just prior to recital), they will not play in recital. They must be present at their last lesson scheduled just prior to recital in order to play in recital. The same holds true for group concerts. If your student misses the final rehearsal, they will not play in the concert. (2) In order to perform any piece at recital, the piece in question must be deemed "passed off" and polished at least 2-3 weeks prior to the recital date. (3) For the most part, solo pieces must be memorized. This is intended to hold students to a higher standard and encourage them to be more diligent about preparing sufficiently.
With regard to lesson lengths on private lessons: Once again, I would encourage you to select the lesson length for your student that corresponds to their current book/ability level. As the repertoire gets longer and more technical, it becomes increasingly difficult to get through the entire lesson assignment each week. And if we have to spend additional time fine-tuning those longer pieces, it will be next to impossible to get through the entire lesson assignment period. You can select whatever lesson length you would like for your child, and we will try to make it work. However, the guidelines I have listed are what I feel would be most beneficial to your child considering where they are developmentally. The bottom line is that students who really need a longer lesson (45-60-minutes) are not going to progress as much during the year with a 30-minute lesson.
Students desirous to keep their same lesson time will have seniority in terms of keeping their previous school year lesson time if they so desire. If you do not desire to keep your school year lesson time, you can request a different day/time, and I will do my best to try and meet your request. Any accommodations you can make in your schedule in terms of lesson time will help ensure that every student who would like to take lessons can continue taking lessons. As such, please consider the following items as you prepare to submit your registration form:
- If your child can come for lessons in the AM or at 2:15pm or 3:15pm (Xavier students or otherwise), please consider requesting that time for this school year.
- If you know that your child will be involved in any sports-related activity or other activity during the school year that will conflict with having an after-school lesson time, please select a different school year time as it is unlikely that I will be able to accommodate rescheduling other than arranging a lesson swap.
- Younger students enrolled in school (who have shorter attention spans and get more tired as the day wears on) will be given preference in terms of after school times earlier in the day. If your child is 14-years-old or older (or would be “functional” in the evening), please know that I probably will not be able to accommodate a request for a lesson time earlier than 6pm for your student (unless you can come right at 3:15pm or in the AM).
- Recitals typically will take place on Monday evenings. Please remember that there are NO lessons (and no rescheduling) on Recital days, regardless of instrument or whether your student is participating in the recital or not. Come enjoy and support our performers even if you are not participating!

**36-week term: By the end of the school year, every student will have had scheduled at least 36 lessons (combination of private lessons and group lessons). These 36 lessons are what have been set by the teacher. Cancellations on the part of the student WILL count against the scheduled 36 lessons, unless you are able to swap times with another student.
