Based in Twin Falls, ID, Sarah Coley has been teaching piano and violin lessons for over 20 years. She enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities and every level of student from beginner through advanced. Currently, she focuses her efforts with students ages 3-18. Students are from Twin Falls and surrounding areas. Online students can be found across the US.
Sarah began her musical studies as a student herself on piano at age 3, violin at age 9, and viola while in college. She majored in Music Composition at Boise State University. Since 2005, Sarah continues to pursue Suzuki Teacher Training through the SAA. She is also registered through the SAA to teach Suzuki violin and viola. She has trained with Susan Baer, Mosche Neumann, Dr. Julia Hardie, Barbara Barber, Mark Mutter, and Cathryn S. Lee. She has trained exclusively with Cathryn S. Lee for over 11 years. Training units with Lee include Books 1-5, Books 9-10, Bow Development, Tone, Bow Exercises, and Pre-Twinkle through Mendelssohn. She has also pursued training specific to neuroscience and music, practice strategies, and psychology of practice. She has trained under Dr. Molly Gebrian (University of Arizona) and Noa Kageyama (Bulletproof Musician/Julliard). She has also attended multiple pedagogy seminars taught by Elizabeth Faidley (Manhattan School of Music Pre-College Division) and Amy Beth Horman (San Francisco School of Music Pre-College Division). Between 2016-2019, she completed piano teacher training through the Canadian RCM. This training designates her as a Certified Piano Teacher, Elementary Specialist, Intermediate Specialist and Advanced Specialist. She also trained on preschool piano techniques. In 2017, she completed piano group pedagogy teacher training through DPMS. Her piano students have participated in and won in local and national competitions, as well as obtained high marks in RCM exams, and been recognized as gold medalist and state winners. Her violin students have participated in and placed in national competitions (including OPUS), obtained high marks in RCM exams, been recognized as gold medalist and state winners, and auditioned and been select to perform as part of the Idaho All-State Orchestra. She feels privileged to be a part of many teacher organizations, including SAA, SAU, MTNA, MVMTA, and SIMA. She continues to seek out opportunities and training to increase teacher development and collaboration, as well as provide budding young musicians with more opportunities for personal growth. She is currently serving on the Violin Committee for the Intermountain Suzuki Strings Institute in Draper, UT. |
